Privacy
Interlace is a small word game, currently being playtested. This is what it records and why, in plain English.
No accounts, no ads
There are no accounts, no ads and no advertising or tracking cookies. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else.
When you finish a game
To tune the difficulty and the word list, the game records:
- the nickname you chose, and a random player ID your browser made;
- which puzzle you played, your guesses in order, and whether you won;
- how long you played (time paused or away isn't counted);
- your “too easy / about right / too hard” rating;
- any words you tried that the game didn't recognise.
These are stored in a database that only the developer can see.
If something breaks
An error report is sent to an error-tracking service (Sentry, in the EU). It includes technical details and a recording of the screen just before the error, with all text hidden. It doesn't include your IP address or your nickname; it's tagged with your random player ID.
Who can see your nickname
- Anyone you send a challenge link to: the link includes your nickname and your score.
- The developer, on a private results page.
So please use a nickname, not your full name. You can also play anonymously.
On your device
Your game progress, your nickname, your player ID and your settings are kept in your browser's storage, so you can carry on where you left off. Clearing this site's data removes them.
Your personal stats and daily streak are worked out on your device from the games you've finished there. They're never sent to the server, so they're lost if you clear this site's data or switch device. (Each finished game is still recorded for the playtest, as described above.)
Like any website, the host (Netlify) handles your IP address to deliver the pages. Interlace itself doesn't store it.
